SELFPROOF 0115 - TIME

CURRENT PARADIGM
  • TIME is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. Time is a component quantity of various measurements used to sequence events, to compare the duration of events or the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change of quantities in material reality or in the conscious experience. Time is often referred to as the fourth dimension, along with the three spatial dimensions.     .....     Two contrasting viewpoints on time divide prominent philosophers. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe—a dimension independent of events, in which events occur in sequence. Isaac Newton subscribed to this realist view, and hence it is sometimes referred to as Newtonian time. The opposing view is that time does not refer to any kind of "container" that events and objects "move through", nor to any entity that "flows", but that it is instead part of a fundamental intellectual structure (together with space and number) within which humans sequence and compare events. This second view, in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz and Immanuel Kant, holds that time is neither an event nor a thing, and thus is not itself measurable nor can it be travelled.    .....   In nonrelativistic classical mechanics, the use of Euclidean space instead of spacetime is appropriate, as time is treated as universal and constant, being independent of the state of motion of an observer. In relativistic contexts, time cannot be separated from the three dimensions of space because the observed rate at which time passes for an object depends on the objects velocity relative to the observer and also on the strength of gravitational fields, which can slow the passage of time for an object as seen by an observer outside the field. MALTA TEMPLATE
  • 0101-01:   That each type of elementary fermion consists of a minimum of two gravitons.
  • 0102-01:   That every graviton has these properties:   mass, spin, and rejectivity.
  • 0105-01:   That the Universe consists of space and gravitons.
  • 0105-02:   That space has no properties independent of the gravitons within it.
  • 0106-01:   That every graviton is subject to the passage of time but the passage of that time can only be measured by reference to events.
    0106-02:   That events taking place within the Universe enable the passage of time for the Universe to be measured.  
COMMENTARY

In the Current Paradigm, time is a continuum with space with a rate of passing that can accelerate or decelerate according to conditions.

In the Malta Template, time is a nothingness. Time will pass, and at a steady rate, but there is no way to measure its passage without one or more points of reference. At the fundamental level, the passage of time is measured by the movement of gravitons. At higher levels it is measured by the rate at which processes and mechanisms progress.

The difference between the two descriptions stems from the way they have been compiled. The description in the Current Paradigm is devolutionary in that it is rooted in phenomena seen by human-scale observers which are then generalised. The description in the Malta Template is evolutionary in that it is rooted in the fundamental behaviour of gravitons which is evolved forward to a point of selfproof.

Time passes because gravitons have duration. The Universe has duration because the gravitons out of which it is made have duration. Measuring the rate at which time passes requires the establishment of tempora. Many tempora are already in use (GMT, three score years and ten, MPH, lightspeed, and so on) but they are all relative tempora. There is an absolute tempora - the rate at which time passes for an isolated graviton - the tempora against which all other tempora can be related. The absolute tempora has not yet been established. It may be impossible to do so with certainty.

Relative tempora are established by measuring the operation of mechanisms and/or processes from one identifiable moment to another. Any change in one relative tempora is detected by relating it to another (ie:  the Earth takes 24 hours to rotate once enabling us to measure the lengthening/shortening of the daylight hours).

The rate at which mechanisms and processes operate can be accelerated and decelerated, with a corresponding acceleration/deceleration in their tempora when compared to other tempora. For example, the gravitons in an unpowered object moving toward a gravity source will accelerate as potentialenergy is transmuted to kineticenergy and consequently so will any mechanisms and processes within the object. This equates to a shortening of the object's tempora. Conversely, an unpowered object moving away from a gravity source will decelerate, decelerating its mechanisms and processes and lengthening its tempora.
